Hi everyone - below is an update from Dick, concerning Music Sunday on May 15 and events before that. As you may recall, we originally planned to have a concert in the afternoon, in honor of Catherine. As you can see, we'll be having that event in the morning only, and I hope we will have the portrait of Catherine to "unveil" downstairs that Sunday as well. Feel free to get the word out to any of those who will want to come to Music Sunday in her honor.

For Music Sunday, we'll be singing Beethoven's Choral Fantasy and Handel's Anthem "Let Thy Hand be Strengthened", which we recently performed the Alleluia from. More from Dick on that.

_________________

Dear UCM Choir,

I know that in a Unitarian church one isn't supposed to get too excited by Easter, but many of us have very powerful musical memories of that day, and you all helped create a new powerful memory for me with your singing yesterday. Thank you!

We next get together this Thursday night for our regular rehearsal. Please do your very best to arrive and be ready to sing at 6:30. We have been subtly pushing the starting time for that rehearsal a few seconds later each week, and I'd like to honor everyone who is there on time by starting on time.

You should know that it was Joan and Sally who were kind enough to suggest to me that, since the Choir is singing at Joan's installation service on Sunday afternoon, perhaps they would appreciate not having to sing the Sunday morning service. I never thought of that! I guess I like making music with you too much! But their idea was a good one, and a nice gesture to you.

We will get together on Sunday afternoon at 2:45 pm so that we can rehearse in the sanctuary before the crowd comes in.

Finally, you may have heard that in addition to the annual Music Sunday service on May 15 we were considering arranging a concert that afternoon to honor Catherine Orr at which we would sing the same music. There is a lot going on in mid May and I have decided that it would be impractical for us to try and engage all singers and instrumentalists for an afternoon concert as well as the music during the morning service. So we will put all our effort into the May 15 Music Sunday service - an effort that I think will be deeply rewarded.

I anticipate rehearsals with orchestra on Thursday, May 12 from 6:30 to 9 pm, and on Saturday, May 14 from 9 to 11. These times have not yet been confirmed with all the guest singers and the orchestra, but please put them in your calendars. They will be confirmed as soon as possible.

___________

April 3, 4 pm - Installation Service - Let There Be Music by Gordon Young

A Promise Throught the Ages Rings by J.
