<div dir="ltr"><div dir="ltr">Hi All: Tonight for our chalice lighting I will be sharing a version of a piece I would like us to do for Christmas Eve. But I haven't yet received permission from the publisher to do a Virtual Choir version, so we won't start rehearsing it yet and I don't have any new music to send you yet. Just a bit of a preview -top secret -revealed tonight... </div><div dir="ltr"><br></div><div dir="ltr">And I did find the Grammy-award winning version of the piece we listened to last week, so have attached it to this email. And below is also the info I wrote up about the piece:<div><br></div><div><span id="m_4303888689209375816gmail-docs-internal-guid-3dd1764a-7fff-bdc4-b694-ff3eedbcb1a0"><p dir="ltr" style="line-height:1.2;margin-top:0pt;margin-bottom:0pt"><span style="font-family:Arial;color:rgb(0,0,0);background-color:transparent;font-variant-numeric:normal;font-variant-east-asian:normal;vertical-align:baseline;white-space:pre-wrap"><font size="4">Sergei Rachmaninoff (1873-1942) was born in Russia and studied music at the St. Petersburg Conservatory and the Moscow Conservatory. He was equally famous as a pianist, composer, and conductor. In 1917 he moved to Stockholm, then Copenhagen, to escape the Russian Revolution. In 1939 he moved to the US to escape the Nazis in World War II. He wrote the Vespers in 1915 in only two weeks during World War I, and it was first performed to raise money for war relief. The vespers is a night-long service celebrated in Russian orthodox churches on the eve of holy days, and this piece is considered a crowning achievement in Russian choral music of the Russian Orthodox Church, and was Rachmaninoff’s last and greatest liturgical composition. The combined Phoenix Chorale and the Kansas City Chorale won a grammy in 2015 for Best Choral Performance with </font></span><span style="font-family:Arial;color:rgb(0,0,0);background-color:transparent;font-variant-numeric:normal;font-variant-east-asian:normal;vertical-align:baseline;white-space:pre-wrap"><font size="4">this recording.
