<p class="m_-5322199688559776546gmail-p1 gmail_msg"><span class="m_-5322199688559776546gmail-s1 gmail_msg">There is much that weighs on our hearts these days, and we need places where we can find inspiration and sources of hope. Now in my second year with you, the Unitarian Church of Montpelier, and the community we build together, continues to be such a place for me.</span></p>
<p class="m_-5322199688559776546gmail-p1 gmail_msg"><span class="m_-5322199688559776546gmail-s1 gmail_msg">I am excited to be launching in just a couple of weeks our Annual Pledge Drive, “A Beacon of Hope,” for the 2017-2018 church year. As a democratically run religious community, the contributions of time, talent, and treasure of members and friends are essential to fulfilling our mission. About 80% of the income for our operating budget comes from individual pledges.</span></p>
<p class="m_-5322199688559776546gmail-p1 gmail_msg"><span class="m_-5322199688559776546gmail-s1 gmail_msg">We will kick off this year’s pledge drive on <b class="gmail_msg">Friday, March 17</b>. <b class="gmail_msg"><i class="gmail_msg">Join us for a delicious, homemade dinner, entertainment, and a special program beginning at 6pm at UCM</i></b>. Childcare will be provided. The dinner is free, but pre-registration is required. <b class="gmail_msg">Please RSVP</b> by Sunday, March 12. You can RSVP online at<b class="gmail_msg"> </b><a href="http://tinyurl.com/UCMdinner" class="gmail_msg" target="_blank"><span class="m_-5322199688559776546gmail-s2 gmail_msg"><b class="gmail_msg">http://tinyurl.com/UCMdinner</b></span></a> or in person with Stewardship Committee Chair, Dan Groberg, this Sunday.</span></p>
<p class="m_-5322199688559776546gmail-p1 gmail_msg"><span class="m_-5322199688559776546gmail-s1 gmail_msg">This year, the Stewardship Committee will be trying out some new approaches. First, we will start the drive with our community dinner on March 17. Second, the drive will only be 16 days long! We plan to wrap up the drive and encourage you to <i class="gmail_msg">make your pledge by Sunday, April 2</i>. Pledge materials will be available at the March 17 dinner, at church on Sunday, and also online. And, finally, we plan to recognize pledgers in the annual report. Recognition by name and commitment level will be optional.</span></p>
<p class="m_-5322199688559776546gmail-p1 gmail_msg"><span class="m_-5322199688559776546gmail-s1 gmail_msg">Again, I am very excited to begin our pledge drive to invest in our ministry for the 2017-2018 church year. Next year’s budget includes strategic investments in religious education (increased hours for our Acting DRE), administration (increased hours for our Sexton), board development, Sunday service live-streaming, and more. </span></p>
<p class="m_-5322199688559776546gmail-p1 gmail_msg"><span class="m_-5322199688559776546gmail-s1 gmail_msg">In these troubling times, UCM plays an ever more crucial role in being "A Beacon of Hope” and providing a supportive community and fighting for community justice.</span></p>
