Good Wednesday afternoon -

We're still in Greenville, SC with our incredibly patient and caring
friends, Nils and April Fretwurst and their two boys. We have been here
for one week, and will likely be here a bit longer. The uncertainty is
beginning to get to us all, but we are hopeful that we may be able to get
to Fripp within the next week.

I have attached a part of an aerial photo taken on Monday which shows our
property and the surrounding area. Our house is circled in red, and you
can see from the arrows where the surge over flowed the revetment and the
road. It is very hard to tell what has happened around our house. It does
not appear to have suffered any exterior damage, but we almost certainly
have sustained water damage inside. Of course, we won't know how much
until we can get there and see for ourselves. It is so frustrating not
knowing and not being able to find out! Of course, when we see in other
pictures of the destruction on the island the amount of standing water
around other houses, we do feel lucky and hopeful.

Neither power nor water has been restored on Fripp yet, and it will be
several more days before we have water and it may be a week or more before
we have electricity. Clean up contractors are finally getting to the
island, but one of the bridges to it is not open for regular traffic. The
owners' association and the authorities are asking people not to try to get
on the island - most people are complying, but a surprisingly sizeable
number are going by boat and, to varying degrees, interfering with clean up
efforts underway. One does tire of folks to whom the rules do not apply!
Damage on the island was extensive, both to private and communal property.
It is a real mess!

We will write more when we know more. Thanks for your support!

Brooke and Betty
