Dear singing friends,
I just want you to know that your capacity to sing beautifully always
influences my desire to draw out maximum expressivity in everything you
sing. Last night as we were rehearsing "The Road Home" I kept asking you
for a fervent sound that I KNEW was in your voices. I hope that *my*
fervency did not come across as boorish or wacko; I simply desire the
thrill of your voices being used in such a way that you communicate vividly
to all those who are listening.
Last Sunday I was so pleased that "There Is Love" was received so warmly by
those in the congregation. You had all of four days from the first time
through singing "There Is Love" to the sharing of it in the service. Bravo!
A final bit of news: this year Choir Sunday will take place on April 9. We
will be singing a piece called "Luminosity" by James Whitbourn. The piece
is written for choir, solo viola, organ, tambura (a long-necked plucked
string instrument found in various forms in Indian music)... and dancers!
The dancing will be done by Mary Chris DeBelina Doyle (who danced so
beautifully on the January 1 service) and a friend. Elizabeth Reid will be
our solo violist and Eliza, of course, will play organ.
You can see a performance of "Luminosity" (a considerably "bigger"
performance than the one we'll do at UCM) here
<https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qetohpp8hPs>. Please mark in your
calendars that we will be having our final rehearsal for "Luminosity" at
UCM on Saturday, April 8 from 9:00 to 11:30 am.
See you on Sunday!
Dick
