Hi everyone!
As we get closer to the final plan for our gathering on Sept 2nd, we want
your input!
Specifically, we want to know what you personally would be interested in
for the break-out sessions, which will comprise one chunk of the afternoon.
These will be approximately 40 minute sessions focusing on either skill
building, or small group singing in a particular style/genre. Hearing your
preferences will help us decide both what specific topics to include, and
how to schedule the separate sessions so that as many choir members as
possible can participate in the ones they want.
Please reply to me, Donia, (Dick is currently out of town at the UU music
conference!), expressing which sessions you are interested in, in order of
preference, along with any notable comments, for example that you REALLY
want to do something or are just so-so. Also, if you have other ideas for
what you would like to see, let us know! Also also, if you know people
who are interested in coming and know what they might enjoy, we'd love to
hear that too. Here is what we have in mind so far:
*Taking care of one's voice* (led by Dick)
This will include info about how the voice works and how it changes as we
grow older, and exercises to strengthen the voice. People are invited to
bring their questions and issues.
*Cracking the code of written music* (probably led by Dick)
This is for those who want to enhance their music reading skills, will
include tips and exercises
Singing Sessions*: *
*African-American tradition *(led by Donia)
Rhythmic, soulful multi-part singing, learning mostly by rote with written
music available for those who want it
*Renaissance ensemble *(probably led by Donia)
Ability to read music helpful but not required for adventurous souls.
Beautiful, evocative music
*Fun pop harmonies * ( led by Bronwyn)
Having fun with songs you love, such as "Lion Sleeps Tonight" and
"California Dreaming", with free harmonization, including tips for
harmonizing
Thanks! Please try to reply by the end of the weekend as possible.
Donia, on behalf of the committee
