See below. This Sing with Dr. Ysaye Barnwell looks as if it would be great
fun. I can't go because of BCS concerts that weekend, but it would be great
to hear what it was like from someone who was there.

We are overjoyed to welcome *Dr. Ysaÿe Barnwell* to lead our *Community
Sing* at the New England Regional Assembly on April 22 in Woburn, MA.

Dr. Barnwell is a musician, composer, singer, arranger, teacher, author,
actress and former member of the African American female a cappella
ensemble *Sweet Honey In The Rock.*

The Community Sing will be a joyous, spirit-filled opportunity to lift our
voices in celebration of being together. Dr. Barnwell will lead us in the
"oral tradition" so you don't have to read music or have any musical
training. We'll begin in a fun easy way and within two hours become a choir
of uncommon voices singing in 4 to 6 part harmony!

The Power In Vocal Communities | Ysaÿe Barnwell | TEDxBeaconStreet

*Ysaÿe M. Barnwell, Ph.D. MSPH *trained as a violinist for 15 years
beginning at the age of 2 1/2, and continued to study music through high
school and beyond. She is a vocalist with a range of over three octaves and
appears on more than twenty-five recordings with *Sweet Honey In the Rock* as
well as other artists.

Dr. Barnwell holds degrees in speech pathology (BS, MSEd), cranio-facial
studies (Ph.D.) and public health (MSPH). Dr. Barnwell was a professor at
Howard University College of Dentistry for over a decade, and over the
following 8 years developed training programs in Child Protection at
Children's Hospital National Medical Center, and administered
community-based health programs at Gallaudet University, all in Washington
DC.

For almost thirty years, and on three continents, Dr. Barnwell has led the
workshop *Building a Vocal Community - Singing In the African American
Tradition,* which utilizes oral tradition, an African world view and
African American history, values, cultural and vocal traditions to build
communities of song among singers and non-singers alike. Her pedagogy is
highly respected among musicians, educators, health workers, activists,
organizers, and members of the corporate and non-profit sectors. Visit
