Dear Singing friends,

I want you, and your singing friends, to know that there will be auditions
for the Burlington Choral Society on (probably) August 13. The BCS is a
large chorus of 60-90 that I've directed since 2012.

This year the first program, performed on November 23, will feature music
from Lithuania. This will be our third program highlighting music from the
choral-rich Baltic countries. It was Estonia in 2015, Latvia in 2017. Both
of those concerts drew representatives from the Estonian and Latvian
governments; choral music in the Baltic countries is truly significant, and
they deeply appreciate performances in the U.S..

The second program, performed on May 2, will include two beautiful Bach
cantatas - Komm, du süße Todesstunde, ("Come, o sweet hour of death") and Nun
komm, der Heiden Heiland ("Now Come, Saviour of the Heathen"), Mozart's
well-known Solemn Vespers, K. 339, and the world premiere of a 15-20 minute
work for chorus and string orchestra by the Burlington's wonderful composer
Don Jamison. Don's piece will set seven of the "Sabbath Poems" by Wendell
Berry.

The BCS is an auditioned chorus because there needs to be interest and
ability to perform music of some difficulty. There are typically 13 Tuesday
evening chorus rehearsals before final rehearsals with orchestra and
soloists on the weekend of the concert.

Are you interested? Do you have a singing friend who might be interested?
As a freshly-minted senior citizen myself, I will not discriminate against
qualified older singers, but the BCS is especially seeking younger singers
in all parts.

Please pass the word on. Interest in scheduling an audition should be made
with Andrew Mack at amack137 at gmail.com or bcssingerz at gmail.com.

If you have a question prior to an audition that only I can answer, you may
contact me directly.

Thanks for your help - and interest!

Dick
