Hi All: It was wonderful to spend time getting to know many of you this
past Thursday. I loved hearing your stories, seeing your pictures, and
looking at all your faces via Zoom. And of course singing together! We
have set up regular Zoom meetings on Thursday evenings now, so please plan
to continue meeting each week. The format will likely evolve as we go
along and find out what seems to work best for our time together. If
anyone has trouble getting on Zoom, please let me know.
As I told the group last Thursday, I will be planning a variety of
activities, with different levels of difficulty, and different ways to stay
involved in music at UCM. And I would love to hear from you if you have
done solos or played instruments for church services in the past, as I
start to plan ahead for Sunday morning music. This is such a challenging
time and I know you miss being together in person and singing together, as
do I. I'm hoping we'll find some hidden blessings in this unusual time,
though. While being honest that there is real loss during this season, I
also hope we can find a spirit of adventure, experimentation, care for each
other, and joy for music-making, as we create some fun and meaningful
projects to work on together.
To start, below is a link to a rather funny video I have enjoyed looking at
several times, which captures some of the frustration and humor in Virtual
Choirs. I do understand the technical challenges and hours of work behind
producing Virtual Choir pieces and although we'll try a little of this,
most of our projects will be easier and less intimidating!

And below is a link to a Virtual Choir piece that I find particularly
hopeful after a rough week of national news -some of you may have seen it
earlier in the summer when it first came out, but it continues to inspire
me:

I'm looking forward to our Zoom worship service tomorrow morning, and
"seeing" more of you during our time together this coming Thursday, 6:30 to
8:00PM. I'll send a reminder and Zoom link out again later in the week.
Have a good week! - Kellie
