Hi Donia,
Please forward this message about singing Beethoven's 9th this Sunday to
UCM choir members if you think there might be interest. Note that all
singers must have their own music. If it's not currently in their personal
music library, a copy can be downloaded at the Green Mountain Mahler
Festival website here <https://www.vtmahler.org/participate/>. The specific
link to the music is here
<https://www.vtmahler.org/parts/beethoven9_choral-score.pdf>.
Singing Beethoven's 9th is always an experience. This one will be a wild
'n' wooly event any way you slice it!
Dick

Dear Beethoven Participants,
We’re delighted that you’re all joining for this crazy and fun event.
Turnout has been great with an orchestra of 60 and a chorus of near 30 and
counting. As announced previously, Daniel Bruce will conduct. Richard Riley
will serve as chorus master with Alison Cerruti as rehearsal accompanist.
There are a number of important logistics. Please read carefully.
· Weather is the key factor for pulling this off. Reports are
mixed for Sunday and we’ll continue to follow closely. We’re planning on
holding the event unless rain or inclement weather is unavoidable. The
final decision on this will be made Sunday morning and an email will be
sent out to all participants. Please plan on looking for this
communication and we’ll have it out early enough to accommodate those
coming from longer distances.
· Parking is always dicey around the capitol building. There is
parking at the visitor center across the street and also street parking and
behind the various government buildings. We don’t know how crowded these
will be so please plan on arriving at least 45 mins or so prior to the 1 PM
rehearsal start time. This is also important as it will take some time to
get the orchestra situated.
· Chorus: the working plan is for you all to rehearse separately at
1 PM on the back porch of the Vermont Visitor Center, diagonally across the
street from the statehouse. This in large part so you all won’t be
distracted by the orchestra rehearsing. This can work well if you park in
the visitor center lot. The added benefit is that the available bathrooms
are in the Visitor Center. You’ll then cross over to the statehouse grounds
where you’ll be on the steps directly behind the orchestra. There is
plenty of room to spread out there. You should all have your own music and
please use black 3 ringed binders.
· All orchestral musicians must bring their own *chairs*, as well
as *stands* and *music*. There will be no sharing of stands and everyone
will be spaced. Strings should all wear masks. Winds/brass may use
appropriate covers/shields if you have one. We recommend having your music
in ringed binders and bring clothespins as needed.
· Choristers are welcome to bring chairs for the chorus-only
rehearsal and of course if you need one for the performance.
· Dress is all black: comfortable and weather appropriate. In
addition, many of you may still have the 10th anniversary B9 T shirts we
had for the 2019 New Years day performance. Please plan on wearing those
over whatever else you’re wearing. No worries if you don’t have one: we
have approximately 30 large, 30 XL and 10 2XL left over and will have
these on site.
· Bathrooms will be available across the street in the Visitor
Center. The statehouse itself is closed on Sunday.
· All participants must be vaccinated. If you develop any
Covid-like symptoms, please stay home (and let us know you will not be
participating).
Let us know if you have any other questions. We look forward to seeing you
all on Sunday.
Best Regards
Dan Weiss
