Hello all and Happy New Year!
I hope you've all found some relaxation and joy over the holidays! Again I
want to thank you all for your fantastic efforts for the Christmas Eve
service--you really went all out, accommodating yourselves to long
rehearsals, shifting schedules, unique conditions, and in the end producing
beautiful music and a really special experience for many. Recording in the
sanctuary with all of you was a beautiful experience; it felt like the
culmination of the struggles and efforts all fall, really over the past 1
1/2 years.
That makes it even harder in a way looking ahead into January, when the
clearer road I think we had all hoped for doesn't seem to be there quite
yet. I'm wondering how to proceed given a lot of unknowns, mostly around
covid, but also with construction likely to begin for the ventilation
system sometime in the next month or so, likely making the vestry unusable
at least for some of the time.
There will hopefully be more information about both of those things on
Monday and Tuesday (although likely still not completely clear.). But I'd
like to know your thoughts before that rush of information comes in.
So here goes:
*First, how are you personally feeling about getting back together as the
whole choir given the omicron surge? *
Please also offer any thoughts you have about the following possibilities I
am considering: What are your preferences? What is your ideal?
--*Scheduling in-person choir on a week-to week basis*, depending on all
conditions. So you wouldn't know about choir on any week until Monday or
Tuesday. But probably not trying to prepare music for January, unless there
is a lot more clarity soon about omicron and construction. Instead we
would begin to work on music for further in the future, and possibly record
some hymns.
--*For the sake of clarity and simplicity, just canceling in-person choir
for January.* Knowing, however, that there would always be the chance that
construction might be in February, taking away one or two more in-person
rehearsals.
--*Or, just those who feel comfortable meeting, recording some hymns* *and
as time, practicing future music.* But still not trying to produce
offering music for January, uness something seemed to click with those who
are present. No pressure at all to attend.
--If we were to just cancel in-person for January, *would people like to do
zoom choir,* to practice parts in anticipation of music we would do in the
future? Or would you rather just take the month off?
--If we canceled in-person choir, but you don't want to do zoom choir,
would people like to do some *smaller music reading or music theory or
music basics classes?*
*Please offer any other thoughts and ideas you have--I'll put them all in
the ol' hopper and figure out our way forward into the new year. You might
just want to reply to me, not reply all.*
Thanks, and hope you enjoy the snow today!
Donia
