Hi everyone!
2 updates. Read on.
First, our rehearsal this week will be in the Children's Chapel rather than
the sanctuary.
Here's why: The short answer is that another group needs to be in the
sanctuary from 6:00 on. The longer answer is that this group had reserved
the vestry months ago for a lecture (the Seward Audubon Society lecture
series). When the new boiler was installed recently they found that our
chimney was not up to code for the boiler, so a chimney liner has been
being fashioned, which will be installed NEXT week. (I might not have all
of these details exactly right but it is the gist of it.) In the meantime
there is no heat in the vestry, and with the cold weather this week we had
to honor the contract with the Audubon Society so they have been moved to
the sanctuary. (yes, space heaters can be used in the vestry, but with the
ventilation on, cold outside air would constantly be pumping into the
space, which the space heaters couldn't keep up with.)
How it otherwise affects us is that the additional choirs for the
interfaith service will not join us at 7:00 due to space limitations, but
the soloists WILL still join us, so we and they can become comfortable with
working together. *We will still have the extended rehearsal for the
Interfaith service this week!*
I realize that this affects those who rely on the elevette to get upstairs.
We will support you however necessary so you can still get to rehearsal.
Either we can be sure to have someone meet you at the elevette to assist
you on the additional stairs to get to the children's chapel. Or, if you
just wish to try the full stairs with help, we will be sure someone can
assist you.
Unfortunately it will not be possible to go back through the sanctuary
after 7:00 to use the elevette going down, so unless you want to try to use
the stairs after the Interfaith rehearsal you will need to leave before
then. We will stop our regular rehearsal in time for you to go back
through the sanctuary, and Maryann has offered to drive any of you home at
that time if your rides are staying for the Interfaith rehearsal. Sincere
apologies for this situation--it's not ideal all around! I would also
understand if you wanted to skip rehearsal this week. Please (those who
need the elevette) let me know before rehearsal which of these options you
wish to use so we can be prepared to assist you as necessary.
Second, in order to give us more time on the Galaxias, and especially with
the rehearsal break for Thanksgiving, we will swap pieces and do Vivaldi's
Gloria on Dec 4th and save Galaxias for later in the month. Many of you
have likely sung Vivaldi's Gloria, and for those of you haven't, it's got
only a single line of text and those good old early classical harmonies
that make it very intuitive for us to sing, so we will have no problem
learning it . A Youtube recording and learning tracks are now on the
website. I am also working on creating a more readable version of Galaxias
which I believe will make it feel less formidable;)
See you Thursday at 5:30!
Donia
