Hi everyone!

First, for anyone who might have been planning to go to the music reading
skills session tonight, I am unfortunately cancelling it. I'm on the tail
end of a cold or flu, so it doesn't seem like a good idea.

Also, attached below is the Counterpoint Chorus recording of Somos el
Barco, singing the same arrangement we will be singing for the first
service, for your listening pleasure!

Second, I am planning the Sara Bareilles song, "Safe Place to Land" for the
choir for the second service, and there will be opportunities for several
people to do short solos if you would like, so I wanted to put that out
there before Thursday for you to think about since that second service is
less than 2 weeks from now!
If you have zero interest in doing a solo, no need to read further. If you
have even 1% interest, please do!
You might have heard Heather, my friend Kate Latz, Lindsay and I doing this
song for a postlude a couple of years ago. It was written in response to
the immigration crisis, but it suits the theme of the second
service--"Belonging" in general, the loneliness of secular society in
particular.

The choral arrangement was not written for solos, but I've decided to make
several of the verse parts solos in order to make the piece manageable to
learn for the choir, given that we only have the 2 weeks. I also think it
will sound good! I encourage anyone who would like to try one to do so!
Some can be very short, a single phrase. And even if the solo line is
written in the arrangement for soprano, eg, anyone can do it in whatever
octave. I am happy to help out with coaching outside of rehearsal if you
would like.

Let me know either before or at the rehearsal if you would like to try a
solo, and which part if you have a preference.

I will attach recordings of both the original and the choral arrangement,
including the choral score to follow along. Note that the original and the
choral arrangement are written in different keys, so if a part is
comfortable for you in the original, it might not be in the arrangement.

See you Thursday!
Donia

These are the sections that can be done by a solo:
(solos might be whole stanzas or single line)

When holding your breath is safer than breathing
When letting go is braver than keeping
When innocent words turn to lies
And you can't hide by closing your eyes
When the pain is all that they offer
Like the kiss from the lips of a monster
You know the famine so well, but never met the feast
When home is the belly of a beast
Oh, imagine yourself in a building
Up in flames, being told to stand still
The window's wide open, this is leap is on faith
You don't know who will catch you, but maybe somebody will
