Hi everyone!
What a summer we have had! I've been seeing many of you in the Flood
Choir, and look forward to reconnecting with the rest of you, and getting
back into the rhythm of the church year.
However, we are affected by the continued disruption from the flood, so we
won't be getting to the usual rhythm just yet. Good thing we are well
practiced in resilience from our covid years!
First, *our workshop with David Ruffin is postponed*, probably until early
November. We just couldn't find an appropriate space that is available to
hold it in.
*Our first rehearsal will be on Thursday, September 7th at 5:30 PM at the
Capital City Grange Hall* on Northfield St.
This will be an extended rehearsal to give us some of the extra time to
become comfortable with our first choral offerings, time that had
originally been planned as part of the workshop.
Please plan on 5:30-8:00pm, with a decent break in the middle. The next
week, the 14th, we will go back to our usual rehearsal time of 5:30-7:15.
At this point we will plan to rehearse at the Grange on the 7th and 14th,
and hopefully will be able to be back in the church for rehearsals after
that, even though services will probably continue to be off-site for the
rest of September while more of the basic church infrastructure--bathrooms,
offices, floors, etc is being worked on. The upstairs at the church is
fine, but ongoing clean-up and restoration work on the ground floor makes
full use of the church difficult.
The location of September services is still being sorted out.
Music planned for September includes Find Our Way Home by Maggie Wheeler,
Covenant by yours truly, and Requiem by Eliza Gilkyson (inviting other
Flood Choir members to join us.). I need to finalize the arrangements of
the first two but will post them on our choir info page for anyone who
wants to take a look before our first rehearsal. I expect to have those up
by the end of the weekend.
Thanks everyone! See you soon!
Donia
