You all did it! It was a wonderful, exhausting and successful day of
performances that were real gifts to the congregation and community. While
of course David and Verdis' contributions were exceptional, high profile
and "splashy", yours were no less important to the overall message,
cohesion and feel of the program.
And I loved that we were able in the end to refine some of our
contributions so that some sections I feel were near perfect--I'm thinking
Ocean of Breath in the evening program, sections of the Ground, and
others. Your efforts were so important. You gave your all and were
awesome!
This was from Patricia Norton: *"Donia, thank you for a lovely evening of
music… and especially for giving me a chance to hear this piece live again.
Please thank your chorus on my behalf for their willingness to stretch, and
the care they took with the music. It was so clear that they were hearing
the message of each song, and conveying it." *
Some particular thanks: Eliza, who truly had the heaviest lift of the
day--so many glorious piano parts. If we felt it was a lot to change tone
on a dime for each of the sections in Breath of Hope, she had to do it
throughout the entire program. And the evening's Troubled Water was out of
the park.
Beth, thank you for the flowers and designing that beautiful poster! and
the cookies.... Beth also made an audio recording, and Bryce recorded the
evening program so that it will hopefully appear on youtube soon. When
these are available after a little editing I will be sure to pass them on.
Nan was very helpful in helping to craft the flow of the program. So many
people commented not only on the performances but on the cohesion and flow,
and Nan's suggestions were integral to that success.
Ginny was the perfect worship associate and partner in actually executing
both the service and the concert.
Did anyone actually count, from your vantage point, how many were there in
the evening?
We're back at it on Thursday with a new slate of music! Also on Thursday
I'd like to spend a little time talking about a couple of things--first to
invite/encourage anyone who wishes to attend the annual UU musicians
conference this summer. There might be funds to help with that. Can talk
more on Thursday.
And, we recently had a comment from a person of color in the community
about one of our recent musical offerings. The Racial Justice committee is
also interested in working with us in the fall about how we might
incorporate the newly adopted 8th principle into our music program. So I'd
like to briefly open this conversation either this week or next.
In great appreciation,
Donia
