Hi everyone!
Again, deep thanks to all of you for your resilience and flexibility over
the last couple of months. Each one of our choir offerings this year has
felt really special and I have heard from several people how beautifully
the choir has sounded and how much the offerings have added to the services.
Now that we are back home again, there are a few things I want to notify
you of, ask about and remind you of.
1. We are pretty much out of black binders. I've purchased a couple rounds
of them in a couple styles over the last two years and am a little
surprised they are all gone (I know we've had some new people but not sure
enough to account for all of them.) I wonder if any of you might have
extras at home? With all of our moving around I wouldn't be surprised! If
you could please check and return any extras that you have I would be
grateful! We have at least 3 varieties circulating: classic black
choral folios, newer black padded choral folios, and plain black 3 ring
binders.
2. Looks like we will be doing the Community Carol Sing again this year!
The tentative date is Dec 10th in the afternoon. I am meeting with
Lynnette Combs and Christopher McWilliams this week so should have
confirmation and details on Thursday.
3. Reminder about our workshop with David Ruffin on Saturday Nov 4th from
10-1. He is currently in France at a vocal workshop himself and he's sure
to have lots of inspiration to bring back to us! This is for active choir
members. If you wonder whether you fit into this category because you've
been out for health or whatever reasons just check with me.
4. As we move into the holiday season and a more stable routine, I want to
reiterate our general policy regarding attendance. As a rule we ask that
in order to sing on any particular Sunday you will have attended at least 2
Thursday rehearsals when that song was worked on. If you have a question
about this just ask, there are exceptions! I know there are several of you
who have been out because of unavoidable health and other personal reasons,
(and we look forward to your return!) and I also know that we all have busy
and complicated lives and stuff just happens and it's
perfectly understandable and acceptable to occasionally miss choir. And I
am not writing this to single out anyone or backhandedly criticize anyone
(truly!). But I *am* hoping that we can stabilize our inconsistent
attendance now that we are back at the church. Because our world has been
so discombobulated, I fear that it will be too easy to normalize continued
inconsistent commitments. As a group we learn to trust and count on each
other vocally, and the more consistent we are, the more satisfying it is
for all (and the easier it is for me to choose music;) just saying..)
Thanks, all, and see you Thursday!
Donia
