Hello!
Fantastic job today--you really brought it on and sounded great!
2 questions:
1. Might anyone be interested and willing to attend this Wednesday's
Committee of Chairs meeting on behalf of music/choir? Perhaps one of you
who is already attending in another capacity, or who might just be
interested? These meetings can be interesting ways to find out about and
connect with all the other stuff that happens in the church. We
(music/choir) don't really have much to report so your required
participation will be minimal (although the check-in question this time
does ask you about why you are involved with your "committee" and what you
get out of it.). let me know if willing or if you have questions. It's
6;30-8:30 this Wednesday.
2. The AV crew needs some back-up help, and they are wondering if anyone
in the choir might be interested in learning how to run the sound from the
ipad from within the sanctuary. You wouldn't need to miss any choir
singing or services to do so. They just need someone with the interest to
learn to monitor sound during the service--turning on and off microphones,
etc. Let me know if you might be interested.
Finally, here is the info from Don about the Don Jamison Concert I
mentioned at the last rehearsal, happening this Saturday at UCM:
*Songs, Meditations and a Dream: Music of Don Jamison*
Saturday, October 5 at 7:30 p.m.
Unitarian Church of Montpelier
Sunday, October 6 at 3:00 p.m.
Charlotte Congregational Church
Note that there are two performances of this program, in two different
places!
Also note that the Unitarian Church is not wheelchair accessible. The new
elevator was to be functioning ahead of the concert, but I just learned
that it won't be until the end of October.
For a long time, I’ve wanted to present a concert of my music, with the
pieces arranged to make a satisfying whole, and offered as a gift to those
willing to go with me on a little journey of the soul. I’m finally doing
it, and am bringing together an all-star group of musicians, including
soprano Mary Bonhag, clarinetist Betsy LeBlanc, pianist Sammy Angstman, the
members of Skylark (string quartet), and a wonderful group of singers,
under the direction of Dick Riley. As noted above, the program will be
offered twice, in two different places. (I don't see an easy way to
indicate this!)
The musical arc begins with two oldies: first, a short song cycle for
soprano and piano that sets five prayer-poems by local poet Lauren Akin;
then a pair of meditations (lively ones, not static) for clarinet and
piano. Then come two premieres. First is a “monodrama” for soprano and
string quartet that sets an excerpt from The Brothers Karamazov and asks
the soprano to portray several characters – and the transformative dream of
one of them. Last on the program are Two Canticles for Larry (settings for
chorus of the Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis), written in memory of Larry
Gordon who once presented an all-Magnificat concert with the Onion River
Chorus.
My son, Henry Jamison, will open the show with a short set of his songs,
including two with string quartet accompaniment.
The concert is free, though donations will be gratefully accepted.
