From ucm.revjoan at gmail.com Fri May 13 15:14:22 2016 From: ucm.revjoan at gmail.com (Rev. Joan Javier-Duval) Date: Fri, 13 May 2016 16:14:22 -0400 Subject: [Messages] URGENT message for congregation Message-ID: Subject: Urgent Appeal to Support UCM's 2016-2017 Budget Dear Members and Friends of the Unitarian Church of Montpelier, The 2015-2016 annual meeting is shortly upon us, and we will be discussing many important issues concerning the life and mission of our congregation, including approval of the 2016-2017 budget. As Dan Groberg, Chair of the Stewardship Committee, stated at the start of the pledge drive in February, we had an ambitious goal of securing $241,500 of pledge income towards our 2016-2017 budget. It became clear several weeks ago that we would not meet this goal, and the anticipated pledge income figure was lowered to $222,000. The Finance Committee then revised the preliminary budget and made appropriate cuts to put forward a proposed balanced budget. Just a week away from annual meeting, we thus far have a commitment of $201,700, leaving us with a deficit in projected pledge income of $20,300. If we don't meet the updated goal, we will face further budget cuts. I want to extend my thanks to all those who have already made a pledge towards supporting the 2016-2017 budget, including those of you who are making a pledge for the first time or have increased your pledge. *If you have not yet made a pledge*, I encourage you to do so by Friday, May 20. You can mail in your pledge card, make your pledge in person at church, or make your pledge online . *If you are in a position to increase your pledge*, I invite you to consider doing so. Your pledge of whatever amount will help us to fulfill our mission and meet the basic needs outlined in our annual budget. With deep gratitude, Rev. Joan *Rev. Originally from Richmond, Vermont, Liza finds spiritual inspiration through nature and the many religious traditions of the world. After graduating from Mt. Holyoke College, Liza taught outdoor science education for several years in the foothills of California. She led high school students on trips to Latin America, including a multi-generational service trip with Planting Hope. Liza spent four years teaching 5th/6th grade at Calais Elementary. Most recently she has been a stay-at-home mother and part-time instructor for kindergarten-2nd graders through the North Branch Nature Center's ECO program. Liza is thrilled to join the staff at UCM and to offer her spectrum of experiences to the Religious Education program and the congregation as a whole. You may recognize Liza's name as she and her family have been part of the UCM community for the past six years. If you see her at church, feel free to congratulate her and welcome her in this new role. Liza will begin her position in August. In faith, Rev. Joan *Rev.
