How nice that we have a listserve now. Thanks, Mark and Sam! As you know, there are many points of intersection between some SRC folks and the Living Lighter Committee. In fact, the LLC grew out of the SRC some years ago. After renewing our church's Green Sanctuary certification in 2014, the LLC lost some energy and members. Of course, they continue to care very much about "protecting the earth, our home," and carrying on with the Green Sanctuary work. But they need more people to move forward. If you or someone you know might be interested in working with them, please contact Peter Watt soon (pmbwatt at comcast.net or 229-1246). In addition to needing worker bees, Peter would like to find someone willing to co-chair the LLC with him. If you have questions about the committee or about the Green Sanctuary program, talk to either Peter or the LLC's contact person on the Executive Team, Paul Wallace-Brodeur (pwallacebro at gmail.com or 223-6055). Thanks for helping to spread the word about this important part of UCM's mission. Judith -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... To: Joan Javier-Duval [image: logo] *Click here now to donate on-line!! * *Dear friends of Migrant Justice,* *Please Click here *to purchase your tickets now to our annual fiesta on *international human rights day*---*Saturday December 10th from 4pm-11pm *at 4 St. James Pl, Essex Junction, VT 05452. Join and share the event on facebook here. Due to an outpouring of recent support we will be organizing a special *"get invovled" meeting from 4-6pm* before the fiesta. Since the election of Trump Migrant Justice's website has been flooded by folks from all over Vermont and across the country reaching out to lend a hand in anticipation of Trump's war on immigrants. Our members are deeply heartened and moved by this outpouring of support and, for this reason, on December 10th we will kick off our annual party with *a 2 hour "get involved" session *for new and veteran volunteers and allies alike. Until then our team will be developing a broad-based strategy to engage hundreds of Vermonters to build a movement to effectively defend the human rights of immigrant workers. The Migrant Justice community is hopeful that Burlington Mayor Miro Weinberger follows through on his promise to make Burlington a Sanctuary City by taking the first step, which is for the Burlington Police Department to fully adopt all elements of the new state-wide Fair and Impartial Policing policy that Migrant Justice helped create. Any sanctuary city effort must be firmly rooted in a legal framework that defines a policy of no collaboration between local agencies and immigration enforcement efforts. We encourage our allies across the state of Vermont to build a corridor of sanctuary cities and towns across Vermont that adopt the state-wide Fair and Impartial Policing Policy. As Migrant Justice leader Roger Balcazar told News Channel 5 in a recent interview: *"Our work will be to continue our struggle for our rights, the one that we have been doing for so many years."--Roger Balcazar* Contact us at info at migrantjustice.net or join us from *4-6pm on December 10th* to strategize around creating a sanctuary city/town that adopts the state-wide Fair and Impartial Policing policy.
