As you know, the Social Responsibility Committee will be leading a teach-in on White Supremacy on May 7. I've received a few emails from people interested in helping but I would like more SRC folks! You do not have to be a racial justice 'expert' to help with the Teach-In. We are being guided by the Black Lives of UU in talking and teaching about this topic. We need more people at UCM who have broken through the initial discomfort of talking about race and can be in that vulnerable learning space. This is personally where I see myself. Please take a moment to look over the material I'm sending out. Listen to the first Teach-in Webinar (right under the map of participating UU congregations): http://www.blacklivesuu.com/teachin/ Read about White Supremacy Culture: http://www.cwsworkshop.org/PARC_site_B/dr-culture.html Learn about the Safety Pin Box: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B0c6_vDiudRqS2tNM1Z6Z01CUWM/view I'm particularly excited about the Safety Pin box because it involves looking into our own lives and seeing the ways that we are complicit in white supremacy culture. I would love to figure out a way to incorporate an abridged version for the Teach-In on May 7. Thanks all, Ansel Ansel -- Flywheel Farm, LLC P.O. A young man I met at church last fall whom I tried to help out for a while is looking to return to Montpelier this coming week, look for a job in Montpelier and an affordable place to live. He has saved some money over the winter at a farm in NY and can pay some rent. When here last he was successful in finding jobs. Does anyone have any thoughts about a room or apt. rental, even short term to help him get on his feet? His backup plan is to put up his tent in a campground nearby. There must be a better option than that! Thanks for any thoughts.
