As we return this church year considering ?what difference we are called to make?, we want to once again give some thoughtful consideration to selecting Community Pouch recipients. There will be a Community Pouch organizing meeting on Sunday, September 17th at 11:30, in the Children?s Chapel. At this meeting, we will determine the organizations that that will receive the community pouch during our upcoming church year. Understanding the importance of the responsibility that we have as a congregation to give and to do so responsibly, we encourage all who are able to participate in this process. Thankfully he escaped and survived. https://www.gofundme.com/helpquincyheal [image: Inline image 1] https://www.gofundme.com/helpquincyheal The external physical injuries can be seen in the photo. He was airlifted to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center and is expected to make a complete physical recovery. Quincy?s sister was also present for the crime and fortunately was not physically harmed. Quincy and his sister have both suffered extreme psychological trauma as a result of this racially motivated crime. Psychotherapy is the most effective form of treatment for healing from the effects of trauma. Therapy or counseling can help people who have experienced trauma make sense of their experiences and feelings, develop plans to stay safe, learn healthy coping skills, and connect with other resources and support. Quincy, his sister and family need therapy and emotional support to begin the long healing process in front of them. https://www.gofundme.com/helpquincyheal This fund created here will be used to provide Quincy, his sister and his family members the psychotherapy and support that is essential for recovery and healthy growth. The fund will also be used to support the family with medical expenses, costs of moving and issues related to financial hardship. The family is currently living in the neighborhood this crime took place, do not feel safe, and will need to move. Plus, Quincy's sister attends school with the teens who hurt her brother and is having a difficult time being at the same school. Additionally, Quincy's younger brother was also recently diagnosed with a blood disorder (ITP) and has been hospitalized. As a result, the children's mother, Cassandra, is struggling with significant financial hardship due to the loss of work incurred when she is caring for her sick and injured children. Please donate to ensure that this family can move forward towards safety and begin the process of recovery. What happened to Quincy is horrific and your donations here can help him and his family begin to heal. All Proceeds Raised Here will go to Quincy's Family. When policymakers target people who are served by programs like Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) and Temporary Protected Status (TPS), we refuse to be divided. Our partners are calling us to take immediate action, knowing the defense of DACA recipients, the "Dreamers," is just one step in our work to ensure safety, dignity, and a clear path to residency and citizenship for all 11 million undocumented immigrants in the United States. Here are three things you can do today: 1) Fund Dreamers' DACA Renewal Application Fees DACA recipients' issuances and work permits will remain valid until their expiration dates. Those that expire between now and March 5, 2018 must be submitted for renewal by October 5, 2017. U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) estimates that there are approximately 154,000 individuals who qualify for these renewals. This process is urgent, complicated, and expensive. United We Dream and their partners are launching The Renewal Fund : an urgent opportunity to directly support DACA recipients' renewal applications and fees. All funds will go directly to application costs. 2) Pass a Clean DREAM Act - Contact Congressional Leaders As we take action to support Dreamers, Mijente and other migrant rights groups call us to ensure that DACA is not used as a bargaining chip to further criminalize immigrant communities. Congressional leadership needs to hear that without a clean DREAM bill, people's lives will be further on the line. Call 1-833-600-0689 <(833)%20600-0689> to be connected and tell Senator Chuck Schumer and House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi to refuse any enforcement add-ons?no increases in Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) or border patrol agents, no wall?and push for immediate protections. 3) Build Power Locally and Nationally: Cosecha Call Tonight! Join Cosecha for SinDACASinMiedo: Call to Organize Actions and Student Walkouts today, Wednesday, September 13, at 9:00 pm ET / 6:00 pm PT. Learn how you can support actions happening across the country led by DACA recipients, their families and communities. They suggest registering even if you can't make the call in order to receive the toolkits and other helpful information. Support the Families and Friends of Dreamers: Protect and Defend Against Raids Our partners at Mijente have found that under Trump, ICE has reported a 150 percent increase in the use of force. It has rescinded any guidance on prosecutorial discretion making every single undocumented person a target for removal. This week, Mijente launched a nation-wide investigation into ICE . They have created new tools to prepare to protect and defend each other against raids . Our Unitarian Universalist Principles call us to stand against criminalization of our communities. We keep our hearts and hands on the work that will protect and defend all undocumented immigrants and we fight for programs like DACA and TPS that have provided more rights and safety to us and to those we love. Love Resists joins with prayers and solidarity with the congregations offering physical Sanctuary, supporting Sanctuary congregations in their communities, working for sanctuary policies in their cities and towns, providing pastoral care to congregants and community members who are at risk, to those accompanying community members to their ICE check-ins, calling elected officials, taking direct action in the streets and to those directly impacted by checkpoints, workplace raids, the rescinding of DACA - may you find in the midst of it all - strength, tenderness, and the power of the ancestors that say no human can ever be illegal . A review of our community pouch meeting shows that we had decided to include each organization that personally applied which was made possible by splitting the month of April. Unfortunately a candidate for the pouch that had been voted on by our UU kids was not included in the list. To remedy this a suggestion has been made to split the month of January, which makes sense given that there will be 2 services that month. Therapy Dogs of Vermont will become one of the organizations to receive our pouch money, thanks to the kids! I will be submitting an announcement in the UCM newsletter to reflect this. Thank you all for your patience with our process. Word will soon go out as to which agencies will be paired with which months. Have a great day.
