It was standing room only during testimony on the Fair and Impartial Policing Policy, Act 54 and S.281 in Room 10 on January 24th. We collectively delivered testimony, asking legislators for a directed effort and commitment to address systemic racism for the first time in Vermont history. The following day roughly 40 people attended Systemic Awareness Day, which included advocacy training, a Coalition Meeting, a press conference and mixer and a film viewing and panel discussion. In our coalition meeting we discussed ideas and ways in which the Coalition will be transforming, one of which is the time and frequency of our meetings. Our next meeting will therefore be Thursday, February 8th at 2:00 at Green Mountain Self Advocates. *Finally, on Friday, February 2nd, at 3:00 PM in room 4 at the Statehouse, Senate Committee on Government Operations will have a discussion on the S.281, Equity Commission for Mitigation of Systemic Racism. * Senators will review and discuss testimonies and relevant documents that they have received. It will not be a hearing so there no testimony will be taken. PLEASE submit all statements and testimony NOW ! Include you name, your title, your organization, the date and the bill (S.281) on your statement or testimony. You can send them here: vermont-senate-government-operations at googlegroups.com. Here are some other things that you can do to support the bill: 1. SHOW UP on Friday! and bring your #racialjusticereformvt placard 2. Please pass this *call to action *to EVERYONE on your mailing list. 3. Please *call the Statehouse and leave a message* for Senators, White, Clarkson, Ayer, Pearson, Balint and Ashe with S.281 in the subject line, asking that that the bill be ?voted out of Senate Government Operations? 4. Please *send an email to this address* vermont-senate-government-operations at googlegroups.com requesting the bill be ?voted out of Senate Government Operations? Here is the proposed amendment language that the coalition and bill sponsor are putting forward. Here is some systemic r acism research and a Q&A to verse you in the bill background and details. Please print this placard and bring it with you on the day of testimony *Vermont Poor People's Campaign: A National Call For Moral Revival* Join the Vermont Poor People?s Campaign: A National Call for Moral Revival on February 5th at 12:00pm for our Unity News Conference. I will have it reviewed by ACLUVT next week and then I will send to vtdigger and the other papers in the state. I welcome any feedback and when it gets published in vtdigger maybe some of you could post a comment as UU's. The SRC could actually vote to take a position tomorrow.
