Hello-

As the new church year is almost here  my thoughts are drifting to the Community Pouch and setting up the initial meeting where church members pick the agencies that will receive donations.  I am interested in working on the pouch again this year unless someone else is showing an interest.  I would welcome a second person to work with me.  My deadline for getting something in the newsletter is Wednesday the 12th so I would appreciate a response as soon as you are able.  Thank you.

I have tentatively reserved the vestry for 1pm-3pm on Sunday, September 23rd for the community pouch meeting.  I'm looking for feedback as to whether that is a good date and/or time.   Please let me know if you have heard of any other social justice events that may be running at the same time.  I feel that having the meeting after church would make sense, but if there is a preference for another day or time please let me know.

Hello-

I have been thinking that the 23rd doesn't give organizations and church members much notice to attend the meeting. I still have the tentative reservation, but am wondering if the 30th from 1pm-2:30pm would work better for people?  We would definitely need to be out by 2:30 because there could be a concert in the space starting at 3pm.  This would mean that we would have to do a fast decision process as it is the last Sunday in September.  Feedback is welcome.

I just found out about two social justice events happening on Sunday the 23rd.  Let Equity Bloom is in Burlington and the 2nd Annual Race Against Racism is in Montpelier. There are no events on the Peace and Justice Center website for the 30th so I am leaning in that direction.  It would give us more time to advertise and avoid these two events.  The meeting would be from 1pm-2:30pm in the vestry.  Thoughts are welcome.

Hi Melinda and SRC members,
That sounds good to me.  The Women's Alliance met last night and I noted
that they gave $100 to each of the following organization last year:
Circle Womens Shelter, Planned Parenthood NE, CVHHH, Have Justice will
travel and $50 each to Habitat for Humanity, CVCOA and $200 to UCM
Community lunch.  We may want to consider these amounts when making our
decisions on the 30th.

It looks like the meeting may be moving to 10am-noon in the vestry on SATURDAY September 29th.? If anyone has objections please let me know.? I'm asking Reverend Joan to announce that this meeting is the weekend of the 29th this week and then I'll get something in the newsletter for next week.? Right now I have the vestry reserved for 10am-noon on Saturday and 1pm-2:30pm on Sunday but would like to let Becky know ASAP.? Hello-

I met with Reverend Joan this morning and we decided to invite any organization that had received the pouch monies in the past three years.  If we follow this rule I will be inviting 25 organizations.  This does not include any new environmental organizations or any that church friends/members have found out about in the past year.   As we only have 8 slots I am wondering if we should narrow the list.  My thoughts were that we could limit the client base to Washington County, only consider those that send a representative, or do two years instead of three. We could also try to find out enough about the services of each organization so that if there is one that is based in Washington County and another in Burlington that we go with the local organization.  Or, I can take a deep breath and realize that not everyone is going to show up.  Last year there were no hard decisions as we had the same number of agencies as slots, but that does not mean that we can't make those decisions the day of the meeting if we have to. Thoughts?  The newsletter announcement has gone out so now it is just inviting people to come on September 29th.
