I would like to meet with the SRC Committee if there will be a meeting before June 5th (the deadline for the June newsletter).? If that is not possible, I can send the information to the SRC via the distribution list and ask for feedback that way.? The new ideas include: making the UCM Care Fund and the UCM Community Lunch standard recipients of the pouch, having more rigid criteria for the process, having the organizations submit a written proposal instead of coming to an interest meeting, and the possibility of asking organizations to send a representative who isn't a church member if we do a face to face interest meeting.? I would also be interested in any feedback the committee might have on the pouch process including what is and is not working.? Thank you.? ? -------------------------------------------- From ansel.ploog at gmail.com Wed May 15 16:45:38 2019 From: ansel.ploog at gmail.com (Ansel Ploog) Date: Wed, 15 May 2019 17:45:38 -0400 Subject: [SRCAction] Fwd: Resisting Border Patrol Actions in Vermont Part 2 References: Message-ID: <08E4E5A6-F98B-42CE-9EDF-BCC56FA0D65E@gmail.com> > Subject: Resisting Border Patrol Actions in Vermont Part 2 > > Hi there!! > > Please let your local networks know about this free upcoming training: > > Resisting Border Patrol Actions in Vermont Part 2 > > > > The Revolutionary Potluck Society and Migrant Justice / Justicia Migrante will be offering a follow up to our Border and Customs Patrol training to address issues that came up in our first workshop but were set aside due to lack of time. The overall feeling was to leave the pouch meeting the way it was with a few tweaks.? To have a face to face meeting rather than a written application and have church members represent their organization if available.? The tweaks are to have a written one page application that would be brought to the interest meeting, have a list of what organizations have had church monies the past three years and their amount, and to add UCM community lunch automatically to the list of recipients. The written application would include other funding sources, non-profit status, volunteer and/or paid staff and a request that the organization write a note at the end of the month letting church members know how the monies would be or were used. What I was trying to avoid with having a written statement instead of a face to face meeting was two fold. The first reason was to avoid the visual that we have had for the past few years where about a quarter of the people that don't belong to the church get up at the end of the interest meeting and watch as the other three quarters of the people go back to a room to take the vote. The rule is that each voter has as many votes as slots and they can't vote for their organization more than once so maybe that is enough. I've thought about having an interest meeting with a separate voting meeting (the worry being I would have a hard time getting people to two meetings), and to try to generate more interest in the voting process through e-mails to the SRC distribution list, church announcements and newsletters. Any other thoughts? The second reason to have a written statement instead of a face to face meeting is that it can be hard for me to keep time at the meeting and some organizations go long which leave very little time for organizations at the end of the meeting. I've thought of having a timer but was wondering if anyone else had any ideas. My goal is to set up a meeting (or two) for the fall before the June newsletter deadline which is next Wednesday, June 5th. As always, any feedback on this note or anything else about the community pouch process is much appreciated. Have a good day.
