[Coc] Committee sponsorship of an organization or group

Committee Chairs:
I am letting you know that beginning July 1st, we will be clarifying
our rental procedures to better define which groups pay for using our
space and which do not. Currently there are several groups that, to
the best of our understanding, are not officially sponsored by UCM and
use our space at no cost. We will be letting them know that in the
future they will have to pay for the space (at a reduced rate) or
obtain church sponsorship if they wish to be able to use it at no
cost.
If they decide to pursue church sponsorship, we will be advising them
to discuss this with you. Your committee should decide their
sponsorship based minimally on the following criteria:
• the sponsored group fits the mission of the church and/or the
committee itself;
• the committee, or at least one of its members, participates in or
is actively engaged in the sponsored group’s work; and
• at least one committee member will be present at their meetings.
That person is responsible for compliance with the rental policies,
including cleaning up and opening/closing the building.
If your committee decides that church sponsorship is appropriate, then
we ask you to please fill out the attached form and send it to Becky
to document your committee’s sponsorship.
