All,
Last week was a busy week for the Racial Justice Reform Coalition as we
advanced our efforts to address systemic racism in Vermont. It was
standing room only during testimony on the Fair and Impartial Policing
Policy, Act 54 and S.281 in Room 10 on January 24th. We collectively
delivered testimony, asking legislators for a directed effort and
commitment to address systemic racism for the first time in Vermont
history. The following day roughly 40 people attended Systemic Awareness
Day, which included advocacy training, a Coalition Meeting, a press
conference and mixer and a film viewing and panel discussion.
In our coalition meeting we discussed ideas and ways in which the Coalition
will be transforming, one of which is the time and frequency of our
meetings. Our next meeting will therefore be Thursday, February 8th at 2:00
at Green Mountain Self Advocates.
*Finally, on Friday, February 2nd, at 3:00 PM in room 4 at the Statehouse,
Senate Committee on Government Operations will have a discussion on the
S.281, Equity Commission for Mitigation of Systemic Racism. * Senators will
review and discuss testimonies and relevant documents that they have
received. It will not be a hearing so there no testimony will be taken.
PLEASE submit all statements and testimony NOW ! Include you name, your
title, your organization, the date and the bill (S.281) on your statement

*Vermont Poor People's Campaign: A National Call For Moral Revival*
Join the Vermont Poor People’s Campaign: A National Call for Moral Revival
on February 5th at 12:00pm for our Unity News Conference. Vermont will join
with over 25 states around the country and Washington DC to announce our
participation in 40 days of moral action to launch the Poor People’s
Campaign: A National Call for Moral Revival this Spring.
Date: February 5th
Time: 12:00pm
Room: Cedar Creek Room
Address: Vermont Statehouse
On February 5th, we will stand united with folks across the country at
state capitols and in Washington, DC highlighting the human impact of
policies which promote systemic racism, poverty, the war economy and
environmental devastation.
Fifty years ago, the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King called for a Poor People’s
Campaign to begin a “revolution of values” in America. We are reigniting
these efforts to unite the poor, disenfranchised, and marginalized to
transform our nation’s political, economic and moral structures of our
society.
Join us February 5th!
Directly after the press conference we will all convene in Room 11 for a
community meeting and discussion !
