Hello all justice-seekers of UCM's Social Responsibility listserv,
I have a couple local actions to share with you all. But first, I want
to acknowledge how much Hedi Ballantyne did to further the causes of
justice in our community. I know I am not alone in attributing my
involvement in UCM to Hedi's encouragement and she will be missed by so
many people in our community. I knew her for a brief 3 years and I will
miss her a lot.
As many of you know, Montpelier High School has been flying the Black
Lives Matter flag as a show of solidarity with its students. The
publicity of this decision has led to a surge of abusive, racist phone
calls that administrative staff have had to deal with. A parent
suggested that community folks might take a moment to express support
for the staff, by calling or sending a note to the high school.
Lastly, THIS FRIDAY, the Senate Committee on Government Operations will
discuss S.281, Equity Commission for Mitigation of Systemic Racism.
Please call now to express your support and to ask that the bill be
"voted out of Senate Operations." You can also write your support on:

Thank you all and Peace,
