Just Acts: UUs for Electoral Justice + Oct. 9th UU Call Day to Florida
Dear Joan,

It’s not a stretch to say that part of our long-term future hinges on the
outcomes of the 2018 mid-term elections. What will we accomplish? What will
we build toward, whether we win or lose? Will we show up where we are
called?

Around the country, UUs are answering the call and mobilizing for the
mid-term elections. We’re raising up our values and partnering with front
line community groups organizing for electoral justice. UU World Senior
News Editor Elaine McArdle covers what is happening in “UUs mobilize for
voting rights, criminal justice reform.”

As part of this mobilization, the UUA has joined UUs and partners to help
pass ballot initiatives in Florida

gain the vote for over 1.4 million people with past convictions, and in Ohio

to dramatically reduce mass incarceration. UUA President Rev. Susan
Frederick-Gray will be joining canvassing, Get Out the Vote drives, and
phone banks in both states later this month and the last weekend of
November.

Nationwide, UUs can help achieve justice and Get Out the Vote in Florida &
Ohio.

Our partners will provide you with hands-on training. For phone banks
you’ll be sent a 15 minute video and concise written instructions. All you
need is a phone and a laptop or tablet and you can make calls from anywhere
in the country. The system does all the dialing and the calls are paid for
by the Second Chances campaign. It is also fun to host a phone bank party
and the campaign can help set that up for you. For canvassing you’ll learn
campaign messaging, participate in role play, and get trained on how to
record your results on the VAN phone app (paper records also supplied).
