Hi Folks,
Many apologies for not getting this email out earlier to you all. It's a
new church season and a good time to let you all know how this listserv
can operate to share information about social justice events and actions
in our community.
The purpose of this listserv is to directly inform folks interested
in social justice of rallies, campaigns, work projects, telethons,
volunteer requests, community issues of note, discussion panels, etc.
Remember that social justice is part of our daily work in this life so
keep an open mind about what falls under our social responsibility.
To post to the listserv, address your email to:
srcaction at unitarianchurchofmontpelier.org.
**Please reply directly to the person posting the event, NOT to the
whole listserv.** This keeps our email inboxes full of relevant
information and not conversations. If you feel a posting needs
clarification or additional information, please contact the poster and
suggest they post a follow-up. I don't love rules but this one has
really helped a very large farming listserv that I am on.
Finally, if you are interested and able to attend our meetings, the
Social Responsibility committee welcomes you to our face-to-face
conversations about how spirituality can ground and strengthen our
social justice work, how we can stay engaged in the face of
heartbreaking loss and encourage awareness and action among ourselves.
I am so excited to welcome Kathy Johnson as a co-chair of this
committee; she is lots of fun to work with and has an enormous amount of
experience with justice work.
Social Responsibility committee meetings occur the fourth Sunday of each
month, from 12:15-1:15, in the fireplace room.
Dates:
10/28
11/25
1/27
2/24
3/24
4/28
5/26
Thank you all,
Ansel Ploog
/“Time is an enormous, long river, and I’m standing in it, just as
you’re standing in it. My elders are the tributaries, and everything
they thought and every struggle they went through and everything they
gave their lives to, and every song they created, and every poem that
they laid down flows down to me – and if I take the time to ask, and if
I take the time to see, and if I take the time to reach out, I can build
that bridge between my world and theirs. I can reach down into that
river and take out what I need to get through this world” - Utah Phillips
