Wed Nov 10 12:59:41 CST 2021

Thanks to everyone who participated in yesterday's meeting and to those who
have shared updates via email.

Attached is the "Centering on Gifts" worksheet that I referenced at the end
of the meeting. I encourage you to spend some time with it before the next
Committee of Chairs meeting in January and to share it with your
committees/teams.

Pasted below are comments made in the Chat that include links to some
materials.

19:15:43 From Meredith Warner (she/her) to Everyone:
Rocky, check the Sept 17th update:

19:19:47 From Meredith Warner (she/her) to Everyone:
Covid Task Force minutes here:
https://ucmvt.org/covid-19/covid-19-task-force-minutes/
19:20:48 From Joan (she/her) to Everyone:
In your update, please address how your committee is working to nurture
connections within our church community and/or with the broader community.
19:20:58 From Rocky (she/her) to Everyone:
I'm feeling such gratitude for the work all of you (us) are doing
19:27:14 From Steve Finner (Barre, VT) to Everyone:
What are the two words heard most frequently on ZOOM
19:27:20 From Steve Finner (Barre, VT) to Everyone:
You're muted
19:51:01 From Meredith Warner (she/her) to Everyone:
“We, the member congregations of the Unitarian Universalist Association,
covenant to affirm and promote: journeying toward spiritual wholeness by
working to build a diverse multicultural Beloved Community by our actions
that accountably dismantle racism and other oppressions in ourselves and
our institutions.”
19:51:53 From Sandal Cate to Everyone:
I’m wondering if there is a version that may be more understandable to the
children of our church?
19:53:47 From Donia Prince to Everyone:
What would be some of the concrete ways you would see that adopting this
might change our church?
19:54:03 From Meredith Warner (she/her) to Everyone:
The simpler language version of the 8th principle is: We believe in
building the Beloved Community, free of racism and oppression. (Liza shared
this and it came through her DRE channels.)
19:54:14 From Scott Hess to Everyone:
That makes sense. Thank you
19:55:18 From Sandal Cate to Everyone:
Thanks, Meredith, for that simplified version.
19:58:51 From Sandal Cate to Everyone:
I think there are many other resources across Vermont, or groups or
institutions that are addressing racism in Vermont, both currently and
historically. I think we should actively “catalog” some of these resources
for sharing in our various committees or groups.
20:02:46 From Rocky (she/her) to Everyone:
Can we anticipate concerns that this principle is not consistent with the
length and tone of the other 7 principles?
20:04:52 From Meredith Warner (she/her) to Everyone:
An interesting resource - An Anti-racism rubric for uu congregations:
https://www.uusc.org/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/Anti-Racism-Rubric-for-UU-Congregations.pdf
20:06:46 From Rocky (she/her) to Everyone:
Are there people in our community who might be at a different point on
their journey of understanding of race and privilege and who will feel
excluded by seeing this among our principles?
20:06:54 From Rocky (she/her) to Everyone:
Are there people who will say "my contribution is that I voted for the 8th
principle"?
20:09:04 From Meredith Warner (she/her) to Everyone:
Please use our 8th Principle Resource Guide to orient yourself and to share
with other friends and members at church:
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Q8IjfcaWYTymSpRzXhrapE1R8xsva2TUwjDGIaRD4Kc/edit
20:09:34 From Steve Finner (Barre, VT) to Everyone:
Almost all the congregations that have adopted the eighth principle report
that it is the start of the work .
20:12:47 From Rocky (she/her) to Everyone:
I want to capture what I heard -- the desire to know that this issue is
important to this church
20:15:06 From Rocky (she/her) to Everyone:
"How would the 8th principle intersect with the work that this committee is
doing?"
